The newly-appointed head boy and head girl at Mapplewells Primary and Nursery School welcomed Ashfield MP Lee Anderson when he visited the Sutton school.
Andrew Whittle, head teacher, said: “It was great to show him all the great things we are doing at Mapplewells. The head boy and head girl did a great job of being the MP’s guides, and they represented the school and their fellow pupils very well.”
Head girl Beatrice, a year 6 pupil, said: “I was very nervous as it was the first time doing something like this as head girl.”
Head boy Harry, also a year 6 pupil, added: “It was exciting because it was my first time taking an important person around the school.”
Lee said: “Education is a massive passion of mine. I was educated in Ashfield and I care deeply for the education of young people in the area.
“I can see the great work that the staff are doing. This school will be a great start for these children.
“It was a fantastic tour of the school. The knowledge the children have is first class.”
The MP, who visited classrooms and joined a maths class, added: “We had a look at a wormery and the outdoor area, where children can read or play board games like dominoes at breaktimes.
“This school has a great head boy and girl, who clearly love their school. They should feel very proud.”
