Work Club workshops

Posted onPosted on 14th Apr

Jobseekers in Ashfield are to be given advice on better money management at two special workshops, hosted by Nottinghamshire County Council Work Clubs.

Money advisors from Ashfield Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) will provide help with personal budgeting, tips on how to increase income and reduce outgoings and explain the impact of changes to the benefits system.

The events are being held at:

•Kirkby Work Club, Kirkby Library, Ashfield Precinct (opposite Morrisons), Kirkby-in-Ashfield on Friday 17 April (10am to 12 noon)
•Hucknall Work Club, Hucknall Library, South Street, Hucknall on Thursday 23 April (3.30pm to 5.30pm)

The sessions follow previous advice on bills and debts, also delivered by the CAB.

Denise Stephenson, Work Club Co-ordinator at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “Nottinghamshire County Council Work Clubs try to support local jobseekers in a variety of ways – not only through help in finding, applying and securing employment, but also in managing all aspects of life during unemployment.

“Money worries can have a direct, negative impact on someone’s ability to find employment, making it all the more difficult to get out of a spiral of unemployment and debt.

“These workshops will help people during a time of significant changes to the benefits system, helping people to manage their money better through the preparation of a personal budget and signpost them to places where they can get further help.”

Nottinghamshire County Council runs nine work clubs across the county, all based in libraries.

As well as regular sessions, the work clubs host special events on a particular topic from time-to-time – from interview skills and employer visits to job searching and volunteering.
