Woodland Festival 10th anniversary success

Posted onPosted on 23rd Jul

The Sherwood Forest Trust marked the 10th anniversary of its Woodland Festival at a new venue, the Walled Garden of Thoresby Park.

Despite the challenges of a new venue and wet weather on the Saturday, the weekend was a success, drawing enthusiastic crowds to celebrate a rich heritage of woodland crafts and activities.

The festival showcased an array of traditional crafts and skills, including spoon carving, wheelwrighting, medieval re-enactments, willow weaving, archery, and axe throwing.

Visitors of all ages enjoyed hands-on experiences with forest school activities and pottery throwing, immersing themselves in the  blend of history and nature that the Woodland Festival is known for.

The Sherwood Forest Trust’s own circus tent was a centre point of the festival.

Jessica Smith Launay, marketing and communications officer of the trust, said: “We are thrilled with the turnout and the great feedback from our visitors.

“Moving the festival to Thoresby Park had its own set of challenges, but the beauty and history of the walled garden made it a perfect setting for our milestone 10th anniversary. We are already looking forward to planning the 11th edition of the festival at this stunning location.

“The Sherwood Forest Trust extends its gratitude to all the traders, entertainers, and visitors who made the festival memorable. The success of this year’s event highlights the community’s strong support, and enthusiasm for preserving and celebrating woodland heritage.

“Planning for the next Woodland Festival at Thoresby Park is underway, promising even more exciting activities and demonstrations. Stay tuned for updates and join us in continuing this cherished tradition.”
