Schools, community groups and residents joined forces to take part in a Week of Action in Mansfield Woodhouse.
The week, run by Mansfield District Council, aimed to improve the local environment in Mansfield Woodhouse and included a community litter pick.
Councillors and council neighbourhood wardens were joined by residents for the event and more than a dozen bags of rubbish were collected. Peafield Lane Academy (pictured) were also involved and planted up sensory flower beds in Peafield Park.
The week began with a neighbourhood warden surgery in Morrison’s Square, when residents had the opportunity to flag up concerns about the area with their local wardens.
Residents were also able to learn about TV licensing and the laws and rules about watching downloads, live TV online and on-demand.
This was followed by a week of events, including litter and dog fouling patrols and fly-tipping enforcement. Advice and guidance was given on environmental issues and there was targeted enforcement of unkempt areas, carried out in conjunction with the council’s environmental health and housing departments.
Portfolio Holder for the Environment at Mansfield District Council, Cllr Andrew Tristram, said: “The week has been a big success. Not only is the neighbourhood cleaner, the week of action has also help to foster a sense of community spirit and brought people together which can only be a good thing.
“I would like to thank all those people who took part and worked together on this campaign.”
Ward councillor, Amanda Fisher, who also took part in the community litter pick with her grandson, Alexander, added: “This week of action had been a fantastic success in many ways. Importantly it’s brought a number of agencies together to work with each other for the betterment of Mansfield Woodhouse.
“It’s been great for district councillors and county councillors to get together to discuss issues. Myself Councillor Lesley Wright and County Councillor Joyce Bosnjak, especially enjoyed working together on the litter pick. It’s this kind of initiative that as councillors we enjoy the most as we get to work with the community we serve.
“I would like to than the Neighbourhood Wardens and the residents who took the time to take part.”
