Winning flower bed comes to life

Posted onPosted on 4th Jul

Sutton Road Primary School pupil Fae Hyatt has seen her design come to life after winning a competition run by Mansfield District Council to create a showcase flower bed.

More than 120 children from King Edward School and Sutton Road Primary School in Mansfield took part in the competition.

A panel of judges at the council chose three winners from each school and then an overall winner.
Seven-year-old Fae won first place with her colourful artwork and, along with her fellow classmates, she was invited to help create her winning design in the heart of the town’s Titchfield Park.

Her winning design can be seen in the flower bed near the petanque court area and pavilion.
Coun Andrew Tristram, portfolio holder for the environment at the council, said: “We were overwhelmed by the standard of entries.

“It’s encouraging to see so many children want to get involved in shaping their local park.”

Jim Wakeland, assistant head at Sutton Road Primary School, added: “The children love coming to Titchfield Park whatever time of the year it is, and many of the year groups come to see the changes over the different seasons. We also work on projects with Maun Conservation Group in the local area.”
