Win a Jubilee garden for your school

Posted onPosted on 13th Apr

Infant and junior pupils are being given the opportunity to have a royal feature in their school gardens and can register now to take part in the Forest Garden Platinum Schools Garden Competition.

All they have to do is sketch out a design for a garden that celebrates the Queen’s upcoming Platinum Jubilee, which is marking her 70 years on the throne.

The only stipulations are that the centerpiece of the garden must depict the St Edward’s Crown, which was used to crown the Queen at her Coronation on 2 June 1953, and there must be sufficient space at the school to create the garden.

The competition has been created by Forest Garden, the UK’s leading producer of timber garden sheds, fencing, planters and greenhouses.  The school with the winning design will receive £500 to buy plants and can use any of the products from the current Forest Garden catalogue which can be downloaded below:

“We are working with the multi award winning garden designer, Martyn Wilson, who will help us judge entries,” says Jenny Davis, marketing manager at Forest Garden.  “We want the children to express themselves in any way they feel is appropriate, the only two stipulations are the use of the crown, which can be in any format, and there must be space at their school to create the garden.”

Jenny makes it clear that the depiction of the crown can be in any format the designers choose including plants, models or weather-proof drawings.

“The Platinum Jubilee is very exciting and we want to encourage children to link it back to nature and gardening.  Martyn will visit the winning school to advise them on the building of their garden which will be formally opened in May 2023, ahead of the celebrations marking 70 years of the Coronation,” adds Jenny.

Designs should be submitted on paper and not via social media or online.

Entries should be sent by post to Jenny Davis, Marketing Manager, Forest Garden Limited, Unit 288, Oak Drive, Hartlebury Trading Estate, Hartlebury, Worcestershire DY10 4JB.

Any schools seeking advice should email [email protected].   The closing date for entries is June 15 and the winning school will be notified in July, before the beginning of the summer holidays.
