A wheelie good event is planned

Posted onPosted on 30th Jun

A ‘Wheelie Good Day’ will be held at Sutton Lawn on Saturday, 8th July to launch the Tour of Britain passing through Ashfield.

The Active Ashfield Day will start with an opening parade around the park at 10am based around the theme of ‘wheels’ to celebrate the prestigious event coming through Ashfield on 6th September.

The parade will include Bicycle Ballet, unicycles and a number of other wheel-based contraptions.

People of all ages are invited to make their way to the park and join the parade with their very own wheels – cycles, pushchairs, wheelchairs, skateboards, etc.

Keeping in the theme of ‘spinning’, Wired Aerial Theatre will be performing, on the ground and in the air, brand new production To Me To You, one of only four tour dates for Wired across the country.

The fun packed event is being organised in partnership by Ashfield District Council and First Art, and will provide many free activities for all the family from 10am–4pm.

Coun Amanda Brown, portfolio holder for Health and Wellbeing at Ashfield District Council, said: “We are extremely excited that the Tour of Britain is coming through Ashfield and Active Ashfield Day is a great chance for people to get out their wheels and celebrate the occasion.

“Ashfield District Council is pleased to be working in partnership with First Art to bring together sport and the arts to provide a spectacular event for all the family.”

The tour will see riders visit large parts of Ashfield including Sutton, Kirkby, Annesley and Hucknall. Riders will travel through the heart of Kirkby, down the new pedestrianised area of Hucknall and through large parts of the rural areas of the district.
