New digital experiences are coming to Mansfield and Kirkby libraries, from VR showcases and hands-on filmmaking masterclasses to creating new digital content.
Digital Spaces is an ambitious programme being launched by Inspire, which manages libraries for Nottinghamshire County Council
Among the highlights is the chance to watch three virtual reality titles — Wallace and Gromit in the Grand Getaway; Philharmonia’s Lark Ascending, a performance by the orchestra of Vaughan Williams’s beloved piece, featuring Nicola Benedetti; and Monoliths, an immersive XR experience by Pilot Theatre and One to One Development Trust, exploring England’s northern landscape through the voices of three women.
The virtual reality experiences will be at Mansfield Library on 17th May, from 10am to 2pm, and 18th May, from 12 noon to 2pm; and Kirkby Library on 28th May, from 10am to 3pm.
Immersive film production workshops will be delivered by Neon8 to students from The Brunts Academy, Mansfield, who will be given the chance to get hands-on with four days of sessions — developing content ideas, filming on location, and learning about the post-production process. Their finished work will be available to watch later in the year when the VR Library tour visits for a second time.
