Walking tall to help hospice

Mansfield Senior Reds over-50s walking football club have presented £757 to the John Eastwood Hospice, Sutton.

They raised the money at a charity function, including a Michael Buble tribute act, at their Mansfield Rugby Club base, which opened its doors to support the event.

Raffle prizes were given by waste recycling firm Veolia and team members. Local farmer Phillip Shillito also donated £50.

The club, formed 15 months ago, are committed fundraisers and have played in several charity tournaments,
They chose to support the hospice after Marisa Radford, the sister of one of its members, Silvano Taylor, died at the end of last year. The family said the hospice gave dedicated care to Marisa and supported them at a difficult time.

The money was handed over, above, to hospice trustee Martyn Knox, before one of the club’s sessions at the rugby club.

Mansfield Senior Reds have also been invited back to Spain in May to defend the Los Montesinos challenge trophy they won last year.

The club are also the Nottinghamshire FA over-50 champions, Nottingham County Challenge winners, Walking Football United Central regional runners-up, Nottinghamshire FA Walking Football Festival winners and were nominated in the Mansfield Sports Recognition Awards team of the year category.
