A mock major event involving 10 organisations and 86 volunteers is taking place at Ravenshead on the morning of Saturday, 5th September to prepare voluntary agencies for a search and rescue incident.
The training session will take place at Calverton car boot field and Old Hall Nurseries on Longdale Lane near Ravenshead and involves a coordinated search for a fictitious missing person.
The aim of the event is to give volunteers and key agencies a chance to train together and share skills and knowledge, and these training sessions take place each year.
Emergency service vehicles, incident control trailers and radio communication tents will be set up in the area as part of the exercise, which has been organised by major local agencies including Nottinghamshire County Council, Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire Police.
Voluntary organisations such as the Nottinghamshire Lowland Search and Rescue Team, The Radio Amateurs’ Emergency Network and Nottinghamshire 4×4 Response will be working alongside humanitarian agencies such as Cruse Bereavement, The Salvation Army and British Red Cross.
Councillor Alice Grice, Vice-Chair of Nottinghamshire County Council’s Community Safety Committee, said: “We are making local residents aware of this event as we don’t want to create a misunderstanding that a real-life emergency event is taking place.
“This mock event will give all those involved a real taste of what a search and rescue is like and will help all agencies to respond swiftly and effectively if a real-life incident of this nature occurs in the county.”
