Volunteering to help town centre

A student who did work experience with Mansfield Business Improvement District (BID) enjoyed her time so much she is now a volunteer ambassador for the organisation.

Tamara Robinson (18), from Mansfield Woodhouse, wants a career as a psychologist or a prison officer.

She organised work experience with BID to understand more about how different organisations work together to fight crime and reduce anti-social behaviour.

She so enjoyed learning when out and about with BID ambassadors, who act as a liaison between different groups and businesses in the town centre, that she volunteered to join them.

Tamara said: “I am interested in why people do the things they do. I want to become either a psychologist or work in the prison service as a wing officer. It is interesting to see if and how people can be rehabilitated.

“It has been fascinating seeing how different partners work together in Mansfield town centre to help keep it a safe place for people.

“The work that the BID does, often behind the scenes, is amazing.”

Tamara will be going away to further study uniformed public services later this year and will return to being a volunteer ambassador when she visits her home town.

Dave Wilson, business crime co-ordinator at BID, said it was looking to recruit volunteer ambassadors as a way of helping businesses.
