Vince Eager talk marks Granada Mansfield exhibition

Posted onPosted on 21st Apr

A special event is being held in Mansfield to mark an exhibition celebrating the town’s former Granada Cinema.

As well as films, The Granada was also famous for hosting some of the top names in pop music during the late 1950s and 1960s.

Among them was one of the UK’s first pop stars, Vince Eager.

Vince, who still lives in Nottinghamshire, appeared at the Granada and was part of the Larry Parnes stable, touring with the likes of Billy Fury, Joe Brown, Marty Wilde, Adam Faith, Cliff Richard, Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent.

He wil be giving a talk on the rock n roll era — he appeared on prime time television most Saturday evenings on shows such as Six Five Special, Drumbeat, and Oh Boy — and take part in a question and answer session.

There will also be the chance to hear parts of a recently-discovered audition tape recorded by Mansfield group Shane Fenton and The Fentones. Shane later went on to find further pop fame as Alvin Stardust.

The talk on Saturday, 29th April starts at 1.30pm in Groucho’s Bar between the Palace Theatre and Mansfield Museum. Seats are available on a first-come basis, use the museum entrance.

The Granada Mansfield exhibition is running at the museum until the end of May.
