Village life inspires busy mum to create candle business

Posted onPosted on 13th Jun

A busy Teversal mum who uses candles to help her to relax is set to launch her first business – making fragrant-smelling candles.

From her home in the village, Chantelle North has launched the Teversal Village Candle Company.

With a background in fashion retail and merchandising, Chantelle has worked on branding as well as the creation of 14 different fragrances. There is one called Priya’s Little Secret, named after her young daughter.

Chantelle said: “I love candles and have spent a lot of money on them. I got a gift of a candle-making kit and I realised that, with practice, I could create my own candles rather than keep buying expensive ones.

“When people saw them, they loved them and loved the fragrances too. I decided that I could make a business and sell at craft events and stock in some shops.

“It’s a family-run business and we hope that when we become more successful, we can open a dedicated local shop.”

All candles are hand-poured, hand-crafted and hand-wrapped in a home workshop in the village.

Chantelle will be selling the candles from artisan and country markets at weekends. She will also be selling from Teversal Manor Rooms, on the first Saturday of every month.

It is hoped that this will become a regular opportunity, with a cafe being opened while the shop is open too.

The official launch takes place at the Teversal Manor Rooms on Saturday, July 1, between 11am and 3pm.

People who attend the launch will receive a free fragranced mini candle when they spend £10 or more.

Richard Goad, who chairs the Friends of Teversal Group, said: “It is good to see a business springing up and one that is proud to be located here in Teversal. We wish Chantelle the very best and we know it will be a success.”
