Unitarians celebrate Heritage Weekend

Posted onPosted on 1st Oct

Local Unitarians celebrated the national Heritage Weekend, 17th to 19th September.  at their 1702 Old Meeting House and grounds on the national theme of Edible England.

They featured displays, quizzes and talks on Mansfield’s historical markets and fairs,  windmills, gooseberry pies, hot cross buns and Mansfield Rotary Club’s Just Bin It! litter-picking campaign, as well as links with Mansfield, Massachusetts in the USA.

Mansfield mayor Andy Abrahams gave an opening speech of thanks and on the Saturday, there were appearances by folk singer Tony Wade.  Children played games in the grounds or had a taste of hot cross buns.

A harvest service on the Sunday afternoon enabled members and friends to provide gifts of sustainable food for the local Trussell Trust Food Bank.
