TV stars charity match appeals for prizes

Businesses are being urged to get involved in a charity football match that is raising money for four good causes.

The annual Frenbot Mansfield Charity Football Match, which was launched six years ago, features the local team tackle television soap stars playing for Once Upon A Smile.

As well as a big raffle that will be taking place after the match and fun day at Forest Town Arena on Sunday, 6th August, there is also an auction of donated items over the following weeks.

Now organiser Craig French is asking local businesses to gift prizes for the raffle and items for the auction.

He said Frenbot wanted to raise lots of money for Help For Heroes, Kidney Cancer UK, children’s ward 25 at King’s Mill Hospital and its annual Christmas Toy Appeal, and men’s mental health.

“What can I honestly say! What started out six years ago with a bunch of lads raising a few quid for charity simply gets bigger and bigger each year,” he added.

“But I couldn’t do it without the support of all the local companies and the much-loved Mansfield community that want to get involved. I am simply a Mansfield lad, born and bred, wanting to make a difference.”

Last year’s Frenbot match began with former Mansfield Town star Sandy Pate and local boxing legend Steve Ward, the world’s oldest professional boxer, carrying out the trophy. It helped to raise around £8,000 for charities.

Once Upon A Smile was co-founded by Danny Miller, better known as Aaron Sugden-Dingle from television soap Emmerdale, and the charity took along stars such as Ben Ryan-Davies (Waterloo Road, Hollyoaks), Joe Warren-Plant (Emmerdale), and Jay Kontzle (Emmerdale) to the Forest Town Arena.
The Frenbot Mansfield Charity Football Match is at Forest Town Arena on Sunday, 6th August. Gates open at 1pm for a 3pm kick-off.

As well as the match, the fun day will include a raffle, mini funfair, food and bar — and the opportunity to meet stars from television soap opera, such as Emmerdale and Hollyoaks.

Tickets for the match cost £3 per person, £10 for a family ticket. Under-3s go free. Call 07788 192105 or go to www.eventbrite.co.uk and search for Frenbot Charity 2023.
