Truck racers celebrate best-ever race weekend

It was an incredible weekend for Taylor’s Transport in the fifth round of the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship, reports Paul Horton.

Driver Mark Taylor claimed a best-ever six podium places for the Huthwaite-based team in the Czech Republic.

He gained second place in the chrome championship, and brought home six trophies — achieving podiums with two class wins, two second places in his class, an overall third place, and a team championship award.

Afterwards Mark said: “What a weekend. It’s been fantastic, but so competitive — my best weekend since I started truck racing.

“Six trophies was absolutely brilliant. The truck ran great with some exceptional work by the team.”

In the opening race, from row four on the grid Mark made a great start, avoiding a coming together of other trucks. He was in command in the chrome class throughout, taking first place on the podium (pictured) and finished fifth overall.

He made another good start from the second row in the second race, leading to a second class win and a seventh place overall.

The following day, in race three he made good pace to keep rival Steffi Halm behind him, taking seventh overall and second place in chrome.

The final race of the weekend saw Mark finish fourth overall and second in his class.

However, after the racing Jochen Hahn was given a five-second penalty, promoting Mark to third place overall.

Taylors also took the team championship award in the final race.

The penultimate round of the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship is at the Le Mans Bugatti circuit in France on 28th and 29th September.
