Time capsule filled with children’s artwork buried at Warsop Health Hub

Primary school children’s artwork, drawings and letters have been buried inside a time capsule at the site of a new community health hub in Warsop.

Mansfield District Council teamed up with pupils from years one to six at Birklands Primary School to create the capsule contents, which was buried at the hub construction site, off Carr Lane.

As part of its commitment to work alongside the community during key milestones in the £9.2m project, the council asked youngsters to capture the essence of the present time — with the children contributing letters, drawings, and objects that encapsulate what Warsop is like now.

It was placed in the centre of the car park by Mayor Andy Abrahams and council chief executive Adam Hill.

The mayor said it was inspiring to listen to what items and ideas the children thought reflected the times we live in, and what they wanted to pass on for the future.”

Warsop Health Hub will include a 15m x 8m swimming pool, splash play area, changing village, gym, multi-purpose hall, café viewing and IT area, and community space, when it opens next summer.

It has been made possible thanks to a £1.8m capital grant from Sport England, £3m allocation from the Government’s Towns Fund, and £103,967 from the DLUHC to create a dedicated changing place within the building, as well as £5m from the council.

The hub is one of six projects funded from £12.3m awarded to the council in 2021 from the government’s Towns Fund allocation.
