Thousands of thanks to Rotarians from hospice

Posted onPosted on 18th Jul

One of the last acts of outgoing Ravenshead and Blidworth Rotary president Mike Kings was to present a charity with a cheque for £1,000, together with his successor, David Lewis.

Mike said: “Each president has the privilege of selecting one or more charities for which they will, over the period of their office, raise funds.

“I have had the privilege of serving over the last two years and much of our fundraising has been focused on my two nominated charities — Maggie’s and Nottinghamshire Hospice.

Mike (centre) and David are pictured outside the Nottinghamshire Hospice charity shop in Blidworth presenting a cheque for £1,000 to Becky Sills, community fundraiser. Becky thanked the club for its continued support.

“Mike said: “We know the work they do must be of great comfort to those locally who find themselves with the need to ask for their services and support.”

Award recognises Rotarian’s service

Rotn Mark Snape was surprised at a recent Ravenshead and Blidworth Rotary club meeting when outgoing president Mike Kings (left) presented him with an Outstanding Service Award for his long service as district webmaster.

Mark has been instrumental in setting up and running the district website and internet-based facilities that are used by all the clubs in Rotary District 1220.

Ravenshead and Blidworth Rotary meets once or twice each month and usually one of the meetings will feature a speaker. Visitors are welcome and each month the club also gets together socially.
