Theatre launches new inclusive group

Posted onPosted on 8th Aug

Young people and adults with learning difficulties or development disabilities are being invited to discover their creative side and have their voice heard.

Mansfield Palace Theatre is launching a new group, Out Of The Box, in September, which will meet on Thursdays.

Sian Booth, cultural services manager for Mansfield District Council, which runs the theatre, said: “This inclusive group will be a safe space where everyone is welcome to be creative and meet like-minded people. It’s less formal than our Youth Theatre, which is also open to anyone, and has been designed for young people and adults with learning difficulties, autism spectrum disorder, or developmental disabilities.

“We know it’s not easy to try something new. Our experienced team is committed to improving mental health with kindness and respect and we treat everyone as an individual — we’re all equals at Mansfield Palace Theatre and Mansfield Museum.”

The group will meet at the theatre from 6pm to 7pm for those aged 11 to 17 and from 7.30pm to 8.30pm for those aged 18+. Sessions cost £3 with bursaries available to those who may need financial support to attend.
