Teens make a difference

Young people who completed a National Citizen Service (NCS) programme graduated at a ceremony at Portland College, Mansfield.
NCS gives 16 and 17-year-olds the chance to get involved in a variety of activities, building their skills.

Some of the teenagers on the programme at Portland collected food and clothing from local businesses to send to refugees from Syria.

Another group came up with an idea of creating a mosaic to commemorate the Olympic Games in Brazil in the summer.

They contacted Ashfield District Council, which installed the mosaic at The Nabbs Recreational Ground, Hucknall.

The young people raised all the money for the mosaic materials, created the design and constructed the display.

The graduates were based at Portland for their social action project.
