Teenager needs your votes for Miss England Final

Posted onPosted on 19th May

A Warsop teenager is getting ready to come out of lockdown in style at the Miss England Finals – hoping to win a place at Miss World.

The event, already postponed three times because of Covid-19 restrictions, is being planned as a live event at the Heart of England Conference & Events Centre, Coventry, on 24th June.

Leah Green, 18, a model and healthcare assistant, featured in the News Journal last year when she told her story of how she was diagnosed with type one diabetes days before her GCSEs and, even though she was unwell and advised not to sit them, then passed them all.

She is campaigning for votes to help her win the title after taking part in a series of qualifying rounds.

The finals will include different rounds such as talent and sports, bare face top model and Plastfree Eco queen, where contestants are invited to create an outfit made from recycled materials long with a public vote.

Also new to the contest this year is an Explore The Nation round, where contestants will be meeting virtually at the end of May to promote their home towns and cities to help tourism to the areas.

People can vote for Leah by by downloading the Miss England app for free. The first vote for your favourite finalist will be free once voting starts at the end of May.

Director of Miss England Angie Beasley from Leicester said: “We wanted a venue centrally located for our contestants to travel to with in-house facilities such as stage sound and light. Heart of England certainly fits the bill.

“I can’t wait for our contestants to see the venue its perfect. Id love to hear from any local companies wanting to support the event as we are planning a sports round and talent round as part of the competition. The contestants are raising funds for Beauty with a Purpose, a charity owned by Miss World that helps disadvantaged children.”

The reigning Miss England, NHS doctor Bhasha Mukherjee, who has been the longest-serving Miss England due to the pandemic, visited the venue recently between working at Royal Derby Hospital.

She said:  “I’m looking forward to crowning my successor there in June if all goes to plan!”

The venue is also hoping to host the Miss England sports round outside in the grounds in early June first depending if coronavirus restrictions allow.

The winner of Miss England will go forward to the 70th Miss World final in Puerto Rico South America later this year with the chance of winning $100,000

Further information will soon be available about the Miss England livestream and voting for the contest.
