Samworth Church Academy, Mansfield, teacher Tyrone Robinson has been awarded a Teacher Hero Award by Aberystwyth University after being nominated by former student Emma Chapelhow, who is studying zoology at the university.

Tyrone (pictured) said: “Emma often heard my telling of university life. It was natural that I recommended Aberystwyth, especially as Emma was thinking of choosing the same degree as myself, zoology.

“The award came as a complete shock and Emma kept it very quiet. I didn’t expect a reward. I help students as much as I can as a default.”

Emma was awarded an excellence bursary and achieved an unconditional offer from Aberystwyth.
