Tea party has a message

Residents from across Mansfield tucked into a big tea at the Willingham Court retirement complex on the Oak Tree Lane estate to celebrate national nutrition and hydration week.

The tea party was held to raise awareness of the importance of good nutrition and hydration, particularly in elderly and vulnerable people. It was organised by Mansfield District Council in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council Enterprise Foods.

Portfolio holder for tenancy services and special housing needs Coun Mick Colley said: “The welfare of our elderly and vulnerable tenants living in our rented and sheltered accommodation is a big priority for the council.

“Healthy nutrition and good hydration are key to good health and a positive outlook on life and can reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, bone loss and cancer.”

For adults over 50, the benefits of healthy eating include increased mental acuteness, resistance to illness and disease, higher energy levels, faster recuperation times and better management of chronic health problems.
