Swim and leisure centres to reopen in Mansfield

Posted onPosted on 23rd Jul

Mansfield District Leisure Trust (MDLT) has announced the reopening plans for its centres in the region, following the announcement that indoor sports/fitness facilities could reopen from July 25th.

MDLT’s centres, like all leisure facilities in the UK ,were forced to close on March 20th, following government instructions linked to the coronavirus.

Along with managing agent, Serco Leisure, MDLT operates four centres across the region on behalf of Mansfield District Council – Oak Tree Leisure Centre, River Maun Recreation Centre, Water Meadows Fitness and Swimming Complex, and the Rebecca Adlington Swimming Centre.

Contract manager for MDLT Andrew Smith explained: “We’re delighted to be reopening Water Meadows on the 25th with Oak Tree and Rebecca Adlington following shortly after on Monday 27th. We can’t wait to welcome people through our doors again, ready to play our part in keeping the nation healthy.

“We’ve introduced a series of social distancing measures at each of the sites to ensure customer and employee safety, including smaller workout class sizes, more space between equipment and a ramped-up cleaning schedule. To attend a centre, people will need to pre-book, either online, or via our More Fitness app. Customers will also be able to book over the phone, but with demand likely to be high, we would recommend, where possible, they go down the digital route.”

“Our marketing team have updated all websites with clear and thorough guidelines, explaining exactly what customers and colleagues can expect when they attend their centre. We’re confident with the measures we’ve put in place and the many hours of planning, we’re able to offer a safe place for people to work out, and work in!”

Due to government guidelines around social distancing and air ventilation, the trust will not be reopening its River Maun Recreation Centre in this initial phase.

Coun Andy Burgin, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Leisure, said: “It will be great news to residents that their leisure centres and swimming pools are reopening – just in time for the school holidays.

“Staff at the centres have worked really hard to create welcoming environment with safety the prime consideration so that people can feel confident to return.”
