A Sutton cake decorator won an award for his two-foot high creations of Muppets’ favourites Kermit and Fozzie.
It took Shane Bennett (24), 60 hours to make the cake, which won bronze in the large decorative exhibit section at Cake International at Birmingham NEC.
Shane, who works at specialist cake decorating supplies shop Cake Fusion in Sutton’s Idlewells Shopping Centre, said: ‘’I am delighted and amazed to have won. This was the first time I have entered Cake International. It’s a dream come true.
“It’s great to have my cake getting so much attention. The only problem is deciding what to make for the next competition in November — this one’s a lot to live up to.”
Shane, who holds regular cake modelling classes at the shop, was spotted by Cake Fusion owner Gilly Swift when he was an enthusiastic regular customer.
“We are extremely proud of Shane and how far he has come, having started as an apprentice with us a little over two years ago,” she said.
