Survey on new railway station proposals

Bolsover MP Mark Fletcher has launched a survey on proposals for a new railway station in Pinxton.

He has delivered 2,000 copies to local residents and opened the survey online to hear the views of the wider community.

Since being elected in 2019, the MP has been working with others to campaign for the reopening of the Maid Marian Line and the creation of a new station to serve the communities of Pinxton and Selston.

Recently Mark wrote a letter to Ashfield District Council in favour of the proposals it submitted to
the Government under the Restore Your Railway Fund, and in May 2020 he signed a joint letter with
Bolsover District Council leader Coun Steve Fritchley, outlining the benefits the project could bring to
the district.

The proposed new route would provide better links to Nottingham, Mansfield, and Kirkby,
and allow residents quick access to key shopping, leisure, education, and employment sites, and
potentially to King’s Mill Hospital, Sutton.

“Residents in Pinxton often feel isolated from the rest of the Bolsover constituency and the wider East Midlands region due to poor transport links. The reopening of the Maid Marian Line to passengers alongside a new railway station is an excellent chance to level-up our often forgotten communities,” the MP said.

“As we look to more sustainable forms of transport in Bolsover to achieve our net-zero carbon emissions targets this new rail route would help to reduce our dependency on motor vehicles and alleviate congestion at Junction 28 of the M1.”
