A Mansfield refugee charity is calling on businesses to help launch an international cook book to raise funds — and is asking past generations of refugees now settled in the area to come forward and share their recipes.
Maun Refuge, which has been helping newcomers to the town since 2015, hopes the book will have flavours from around the globe, including Eritrea, Afghanistan, Sudan, Ukraine, and more.
It wants contributors to put the spotlight on Mansfield refugees’ home-comfort dishes.
Charity co-ordinator Brenda Walker said: “At Maun Refuge we strive to build a safe and welcoming community. It would mean a lot to the charity and our service users if businesses or individuals could sponsor us just a small amount to help to get the book published.
“Sponsors’ name will be credited in the book and the funds raised through selling it will enable us to continue our vital support work.
“This is a chance to celebrate the culinary diversity our town has to offer and show support for our refugees.”
Maun Refuge will launch the cook book for Refugee Week in June and there will be a chance to taste some of the recipes from the book at a pop-up food event.
Brenda added: “We hope this inspirational recipe book will encourage us to eat together and share a plate of food that forges friendship.”
