Students’ sporting success

Samworth Church Academy celebrated its sporting talent at the annual Sports Awards ceremony.

Dozens of prizes were awarded for outstanding dedication or achievement.

Two special awards were given to students who had shown exceptional aptitude and commitment.

The Rebecca Adlington Award went to Kaisha Buchanan, who represented Nottinghamshire in the English Schools Athletics Championships in the 300m and the 4x100m relay.

Her teacher, Carl Bennett, PE team leader, said: “Kaisha has managed to maintain her extremely high standards in athletics for another year.”

The Lee Westwood Award, was given to Joe Czubkowski. He won the British Youth Climbing series in the Peak area and the British Championships for his age group.

In the last year, the academy was crowned Nottinghamshire Sporting School of the Year.

PE teacher Hannah Carey said the success was due to the continued support and commitment from the PE team, academy staff and strong club links, as well as the success of leadership programmes and individual students and teams.

She said: “For example, this year some of our teams’ highlights included two county cup winners, three county runners-up, and two town cup runners-up.”
