Students have been reflecting on their achievements while gaining pottery skills after a busy year at Mansfield Education Hub.
A group visited the Glazey Place in the town centre as part of their enrichment programme.
They showed their creative flair by designing a personal tile that represented their individual learning journey throughout the year.
The pottery designs encompassed activities students took part in over the past nine months.
The tiles will be displayed as part of a college community mosaic at Mansfield Education Hub, which is part of Barnsley College.
In addition to the pottery session, students took part in and promoted a walk to mark Slava Ukraine Day — Ukraine’s national day for celebrating independence, freedom and national sovereignty.
It was part of the Barnsley College Walk to Freedom initiative, where students and staff attempted to walk 3,200km — the distance between Barnsley and Kharkiv in Ukraine.
Josh Ludlam, Foundation Learning teacher at the hub, said: “I am proud of all of our students for raising awareness of the conflict in Ukraine. It was good to show solidarity with the people in Ukraine in a project that involved students across the whole of Barnsley College.”
During National Careers Week guest speakers from construction companies, the RAF, Jobcentre Plus, and West Notts College, Mansfield, visited to answer questions and give information.
A social media project allowed students to examine how to challenge unconscious bias and they created Tik Tok videos to challenge the stigma surrounding young people’s mental health.
The project-based Foundation Learning course offered at Mansfield Education Hub sees students take part in ongoing practical projects that feed into their qualification and have an opportunity to study GCSEs. Courses are available throughout the year.
