Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard is set to be one of the first big hitters to appear at Mansfield’s new venue, The Civic Quarter.
Formerly the Lindhurst Rooms, within the Civc Centre on Chesterfield Road, the venue has been unused since the previous leaseholders pulled out around two years ago.
A new company, The Civic Quarter, is set to take over the lease of the rooms, which can accommodate up to around 400 people.
Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard will be appearing at the newly-opened Civic Quarter on 2nd December, from 6.15pm.
Paul Andrews, from the company, said: “There is nothing quite like this venue in this area. We are delighted to take on the lease.
“We will be carrying out extensive decorating works and putting in a new bar. We are working with Mansfield District Council to completely recommission the kitchen facilities.
“As you can see from the first major show, this place has potential to put Mansfield firmly on the map.”
Paul is the co-owner of the multi-award-winning Mansfield Manor Hotel, with Diane Doran. The pair have been working closely with the council to ensure the new lease enables a viable future for The Civic Quarter, which could also house a new café for council staff working at the Civc Centre.
Mansfield mayor Kate Allsop said: “These rooms have been crying out to be used.
“It’s great to hear about the plans and see a company willing to invest time and energy.”
The venue will be looking to hire new staff, and people with experience of working in venues should email [email protected]
