Fans’ favourite Matt Green has returned to Mansfield Town two years after his goals guided them out of the Conference and back into the Football League.
The 28-year-old, who left for Birmingham City in the Championship, has signed a permanent deal to return to One Call Stadium and will spearhead the Stags’ strike-force in the 2015/16 campaign.
Green is fondly remembered by Stags’ supporters for his exploits in that title-winning Conference Premier campaign.
The striker won the divisional ‘Golden Boot’ award for his exploits as he scored 25 goals in the league – including a memorable match-winning strike in the Stags’ nail-biting win over Hereford United in the penultimate game of the season.
Green scored two goals in a dozen appearances at Birmingham, before he was sidelined by an injury.
Delighted with the acquisition of the striker, Mansfield Town boss Adam Murray said: “Both myself and the chairman have thought long and hard in order to beat off competition from League One and Championship clubs to capture the signature of Matt Green.
“It’s a statement of our intent going into next season and it’s great to have him back on board. I thank the chairman for making this happen.”
