Mansfield Town’s One Call Stadium pitch will undergo a 10.45am pitch inspection tomorrow morning, ahead of the Stags’ scheduled Sky Bet League Two match at home to leaders Wycombe Wanderers.
Head groundsman Michael Merriman explained to www.mansfieldtown.net: “We have had the frost covers on the pitch since Saturday night, straight after our home game against Exeter City.
“The frost covers came off for our youth team’s game versus Stoke City on Monday night and were back on after the match.
“We’ve had sub-zero temperatures in Mansfield all week, followed by three-inches of snow on Wednesday.
“The frost covers have come off this morning (Friday) to try todry out the pitch, as it is wet and frozen in certain areas underneath the covers.
“Light rain is due from 3pm today and some heavy rain is forecast this evening. We will therefore leave the covers off the pitch to give the playing surface every chance of drying out over night as there is no further rain forecast.
“Looking at the forecasted temperatures, it is expected to be around three degrees overnight.”
He added: “Wycombe’s squad are stopping overnight tonight, but we were mindful that we needed to give Wycombe’s supporters enough time to set off and also allow the game every chance of being played.”
The club will provide further updates once the inspection has been made tomorrow morning.
