Gymnast Erin Broughton celebrates an outstanding 2024

Posted onPosted on 9th Dec

Warsop gymnast Erin Broughton is reflecting on a highly successful 2024, where she made her mark on the national stage.

Fifteen-year-old Erin, a student at Meden School in the town, enjoyed many sporting high points in the previous 12 months.

She competed at the British Team Championships for Nottinghamshire, winning a silver medal.

Then, in March, Erin competed at the British Championships in Liverpool and placed eighth All-Around in Great Britain, also making the floor final where she was fifth.

The following month she was asked to join a French team and compete in Paris just before the start of the Olympic Games build-up in the city. Erin’s individual score was the highest of the day as the team was fourth.

After a successful competition season, including at the English, Welsh, and British championships, Erin, who is a member of Notts Gymnastics Academy — having started her career in the sport at 776 Gymnastics Mansfield — was selected for the junior GB squad in June.

A spokesperson for the school said: “Erin is an absolute delight and superstar, and we are so lucky to have her as a Meden School student.

Erin is a superb role model for her peers in sport and, more importantly, away from sport too She is absolutely amazing in her attitude, attendance, behaviour, and school work — every single day.

“And all while trying to balance training for more than 23 hours a week, five days a week.”

Erin, who also competes for Meden School in other sports, such as athletics, won the Headteacher Award, the highest possible, at the end-of-year awards in July for all her successes both in and out of school.
