Formula Woman Nations Cup qualifier Alicia Barrett, of Southwell, returns to the race track this weekend as she makes her debut in the Fine Cut Radical Cup UK at Donington Park circuit, Derby.
The 21-year-old will pair up with Formula Woman Nations Cup Mexican driver Karla Villanueva to race a Radical SR3 courtesy of the Radical Factory Team.
Alicia said: “In December I qualified for the Formula Woman Nations Cup, driving a Radical SR3.
“This weekend’s racing opportunity has arisen as a result. Radical Motorsport recognised the positive
influence of Formula Woman in getting more females engaged in motorsport and offered two cars to race in this weekend’s competition.
“I couldn’t be more delighted to have been selected and wave the Formula Woman flag at Donington Park this weekend.”
The inaugural Formula Woman Nations Cup will take place in Dubai in May. Alicia will join a grid of women from 26 countries who have qualified to race Radical SR3s in this ground-breaking all-female competition that aims to redefine the landscape for women in motorsport. Supported by The Car Crowd, Fromel Supplements, Penny Lane, Citus Dry Lining Ltd and Salon Shelf, Alicia’s entry into the first round of this year’s Fine Cut Radical Cup UK will give her valuable seat time and racing experience in the build-up to May’s Nations Cup competition.
“My aim this weekend is to develop my race craft and build my confidence racing
a Radical SR3,” says Alicia. “The competitive grid will be a great challenge,
and I look forward to showing what I can do.”
The Fine Cut Radical Cup UK is a one-make championship with six rounds, including a
European round at Circuit Zandvoort in the Netherlands. Its three-race format – two sprint races and one endurance race – provides intense competition driving Radical SR3s for all levels of racing drivers, from newcomers to seasoned professionals.
Alicia was a European karting champion and has been involved in motorsport since she was eight. She currently combines working as a driver coach and mechanic with her final year degree studies at Nottingham Trent University.
The high cost of racing cars had prevented Alicia progressing from driving karts to cars – until she discovered Formula Woman. She says, “I’ve gone from being a Formula Woman competition entrant to racing in Dubai and competing in the prestigious Fine Cut Radical Cup UK. Formula Woman is opening doors for women in motor racing all over the world – not only as drivers but in many aspects of the sport, providing a non-judgemental, safe and inclusive environment for women.”
Given the importance of STEM education and skills, inclusivity and equal opportunities in the modern world, I feel my drive and sporting ambition can offer many benefits and synergies for businesses, brands or individuals who would like to support me on my motorsport journey. I need to secure further testing sessions and more racing, if possible, prior to the May Formula Woman Nations Cup competition.
