Club celebrates successful season at awards evening

Posted onPosted on 12th Nov

Farnsfield Cricket Club brought its 2024 season with its Senior Presentation Evening, celebrating an exceptional year at both team and individual level.

The 1st XI finished runners up in the countywide Popkess Cup and for the third successive year was runners up in the Bassetlaw League Championship.

The 3rd XI gained promotion to the league’s Division 4 — its second promotion in three years.

However, the accolade for the most outstanding performance went to the 2nd XI, who were Bassetlaw League Division 2 champions.

Leading the individual performances was the club’s overseas player, Michael Archer, who was the top wicket taker in the club, Bassetlaw League, and the East Midlands.

Trophies were presented by Nottinghamshire CCC’s Brett Hutton to:

Batting: Freddie Skelton (1st XI), Ben Goss (2nd XI), Jigar Patel (3rd XI), Ali Wellings (women’s team), Jack Rogers (Sunday XI), Will Wheatley (U19 XI).

Bowling: Alex Ainger (1st XI), Dev Brocklehurst (2nd XI), Jonathan Davies (3rd XI), Scarlett Castiaux (women’s team), Thomas Alcock (Sunday XI), Harry Ballard (U19 XI).

Fielding: Ben Kilford (1st XI), Michael Hall (2nd XI), Neil Atkin (3rd XI), Cam Jackson (Sunday XI), Will Marshall (U19 XI).

For the women’s team, Sara Atkin was awarded the Most Improved Player award, Lindsay Chapman the Captain’s Player, and Ali Wellings Player’s Player.

In November the club hosted its annual bonfire and fireworks display and quiz night events as well as a new social venture, a Christmas Crafts demonstration.

Winter training has begun with the Junior U11 squad training at Ravenshead Leisure Centre on Friday evenings. Other junior teams will be training at Wellow School.

The Women’s and Girls’ Section has started winter training at Samworth Academy, Mansfield in preparation for the Nottinghamshire Women’s Softball Cricket Winter League. Open-age training starts after Christmas.

Anyone interested in joining the club, no matter their age, experience or ability, is welcome. Volunteers are also welcome. For further details about how to join the club, email [email protected]
