Rising athletics star Edward Sankey (pictured left, wearing the 63 vest), of The Garibaldi School, Forest Town, has thanked the Armchair Club – a group of Mansfield and Ashfield people who back sport in the area — for its support.

A donation helped him compete at the English Schools Athletics Championships in Birmingham, where he finished third in the senior boys 2,000m steeplechase.

Nicola Biggs, Mansfield School Games organiser, said it was a pleasure to support Edward and present a cheque to contribute to the expenses of the elite level competition.

“Edward has been a great role model, both in school and at Mansfield Harriers AC, and has recently supported School Athletics events with his school,” she added.

Edward is pictured (above ???) at the English Schools event at Alexandra Stadium, Birmingham, where he won bronze in the senior boys 2,000m steeplechase and is now ranked sixth in the UK for the event in his age group.
