Huthwaite-based Taylors Trucksport Racing Team had a fantastic weekend at Nürburgring in Germany for the fourth round of the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship, writes Paul Horton.

Driver Mark Taylor and the team claimed two third place finishes and two Team Championship awards.

They extended their hold on third place in the chrome championship to 35 points and were closing in on second place at the start of a seven-week summer break in the series.

After damage to a right rear tyre rim and a puncture on the first lap of the first race on the Saturday, Mark battled hard for 11th place, fifth in chrome.

In the second race of the day he was 10th, fourth in chrome, and won a Team Championship award.

On the following day, Mark was ninth, third in chrome, and claimed another Team Championship Award that saw team principal Alan Taylor on the podium with third generation Portuguese truck racing legend Eduardo Rodrigues, grandfather of racer Jose Eduardo Rodrigues (pictured top).

For the final race of the weekend, a reversed grid saw Mark start ninth on the grid. By the halfway point he was holding on to another podium spot in chrome and kept his cool to stay there, taking another piece of silverware for the trophy room.

It was a great weekend for the British team, who were all delighted with the weekend’s results, while off the track they entertained more than 100 guests and sponsors over the weekend.

Mark said: “It was a busy and great weekend for us, another 35 points to extend our third-place lead in chrome and just 16 points off second place.

“The team again did me proud — a gearbox change on the Thursday and lots of work during the weekend. We all deserve a summer break and look forward to the Czech Republic at the end of August.”

They left Germany with 142 points in third place in the chrome class, are 10th overall, and fourth in the team championship under Team Taylor/Rodrigues.

The team will not be competing at the International Truck Prix at Donington Park in August, which is not part of the European competition.
