Sip, Sip Hooray – See Shakers the comedy play

Posted onPosted on 14th Sep

The double BAFTA winning partnership of John Godber and Jane Thornton are bringing their writing skills to Mansfield Palace Theatre with the classic play Shakers, sister play to Bouncers, from Thursday 29 September to Saturday 1 October.

The iconic play puts women’s lives front and centre.

The high street might be struggling to get back to normal but the Shakers bar is under new management and they are determined to make it the place to be seen. Pubs are closing, gin bars are so yesterday, and cocktails and decadence are back for the roaring 2020s, as the hospitality industry looks to a new future.

Misogyny is rife, in the home, in the workplace, and on the streets. The walk home after closing feels longer than ever, the customers are getting more leering, the hours longer, but the pay hasn’t changed. For waitresses Adele, Nicky and Mel, their lives juggle home, work, school and everything in between, but how long can it be maintained?

Funny, physical and fizzing with wit, Shakers might just be the bar that we all want to be seen in!

Nicky will be played by Yasmin Dawes, a Midlands-born actor and creative. She trained at Rose Bruford College and spent a semester as an acting major at Syracuse University in New York State. Her theatre credits include Underwater Love (Futures Theatre), Wicked Women (Tmesis Theatre) and May Queen (Belgrade Theatre, Coventry).

Adele will be played by Jazmine Franks who is best known for playing the role of Esther Bloom in Channel 4’s Hollyoaks. Her other credits include DCI Banks (ITV), Shameless (Channel 4) and The Street (ITV).

Mel will be played by Rebecca Tebbett who graduated from LAMDA in 2017 and was awarded the Laurence Olivier Bursary whilst training. Rebecca’s TV credits include Call the Midwife (BBC) and Murder Maps (UKTV).  Her theatre credits include Nutcracker Re-Miced (Durham Gala); Hound of The Baskervilles (Northern Stage); Jane Eyre (The Watermill) and Fragment (Battersea Arts Centre).

Tickets can be booked online 24/7 at mansfieldpalace.co.uk or you can visit or call the Box Office during office hours on 01623 633133.
