Scouts from most countries across the world are preparing for the movement’s biggest event.
The 23rd World Scout Jamboree will be held in Japan from 28th July to 8th August — and 36 Scouts from Nottinghamshire will be among them.
The Scouts, including four from Mansfield, have spent more than 18 months planning, raising funds and training to take part.
They are part of Nottinghamshire Hoods 40, which will include four volunteer adult leaders.
The four Mansfield Scouts are Emma, Jade, Alex and Jenni.
Emma, 15, said: “We have been working so hard for a long time now, but with just a few days to go it has brought it into perspective.”
Explorer Scout Ben Scothern, of Ashfield, said: “This is a great opportunity for me to meet other young people from all over the world, to discover things about their culture and traditions and have fun with them.”
Unit leader Jonathan Timmons, of Mansfield, said: “Preparing for the jamboree has been a true journey.
“There has been a lot planning and hard work. We have had several training camps and fundraising activities, where young people from all over the county have joined together to become a comprehensive team.
“When we get to Japan I know it will be 100 times better.
“I have done some fantastic things with Scouts since I became a volunteer, but this tops the lot.”
