Schools tickled pink for charity

Posted onPosted on 2nd Nov

Three Flying High Trust schools in Pinxton dedicated a day to raising awareness and more than £200 for Breast Cancer Now.

Staff and pupils at the three schools wore pink to mark the day, with many teachers sporting pink wigs.

Longwood Infant Academy, John King Infant Academy and Kirkstead Junior Academy make up The Pinxton Village Academies.

Melanie Peat, a parent with children who attend Pinxton Village Academies, has undergone treatment for breast cancer.

She said: “Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women in the UK, it affects tens of thousands of women and hundreds of men every year. It has no boundaries and can just happen to anyone, at any time under any circumstance.

“So, I am very thankful for Pinxton Village Academies in embracing the colour pink, a day dedicated to raising funds and highlighting breast cancer awareness.

“Today, will hopefully show a stark reality of how close to home it happens. It may trigger a conversation or a breast check around this sensitive topic, not just today, but all year round too, as early detection is the key to surviving breast cancer.

“In addition, raising funds for the research charity will create many opportunities and memories for my family to enjoy, especially my daughters and husband, as the research will enable lifesaving treatments and care for those living with cancer.”
