The former Crompton View Primary School in Bilsthorpe has been relaunched as Bilsthorpe Flying High Academy.
It is part of The Flying High Trust, based at Cotgrave Candleby Lane School, a multi-academy trust with access to more than 40 schools within its Teaching School Alliance.
The new school also has a new head, Lisa Turland.
The academy was launched at a family day. It included the launching of balloons and giving each pupil a book bag and school jumper or cardigan with the school logo on, designed seven-year-old pupil Tia Williams (age 7).
The new head said: “The family day has been a perfect way to launch our hopes and aspirations for every pupil that attends this wonderful school.
“We thank everyone who attended the launch and Oakwood Fuels for donating balloons for the children to launch. It was a symbolic event as we want our pupils’ aspirations to fly as high as possible, just like the balloons.”
