Sutton Rotary Club helped youngsters at a school in the town complete a litter pick.
Rotn Danny Thompson, with support from president Karen Alderton and president-elect Geoff Snare, joined staff and parents as they led Mapplewells Primary School on the community venture at the Blue Bell Way playing field close to the school.
Year 5/6 teacher Marta Warren said: “The children loved the activity and are already asking when they can go again.”
Before the litter pick, Danny went into a classroom to demonstrate the dangers that discarded litter can bring to wildlife, and the importance of respecting your community and neighbourhood by taking your litter home.
Danny added “It’s all about education. There is no need to see loads of rubbish on our streets and parks, and the council can only do so much.
“If we can get youngsters interested and they go home and tell their mums and dads, they start talking about it.
“We need to get people interested in their own communities, instead of discarding litter.”
