Rotarians highlight campaign to end polio

Posted onPosted on 24th Oct

A group of Mansfield Rotarians walked one mile to raise awareness of World Polio Day and funds for Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign.

The Mansfield walkers joined 1.2million Rotarians across the world who took part in localised events to promote the cause.

Those who walked were asked to donate £1, which will be matched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

A total of £91 was donated by the Mansfield group for the End Polio Now campaign, which has been supported by Rotarians worldwide for more than 40 years.

Pictured, above, are some of the Rotarians, their families and friends who walked a one-mile course around the athletics track at Berry Hill Park, Mansfield.

The finishing lap was on the running track itself with Mansfield Harriers chairman Pat Carlan supervising the walkers and providing tea and coffee at the finish.

The president of Mansfield Rotary, Karen Johnson, thanked those who took part, particularly Pat for his support on behalf of the Harriers in opening the facilities on a very wet Sunday morning.
