Rotarian Cate completes 120-mile cycle challenge for charities

Posted onPosted on 5th Oct

Mansfield Rotarian Cate Hunt has got on a bike for the first time in more than 30 years – and cycled 120 miles in two days to raise money for three charities.

Cate joked she had discovered that the old saying, “once you have learnt to ride a bike you never forget”, just isn’t true!

Despite scrapes, bruises, and punctures, Cate’s training went well and she completed the ride from Mansfield to Scarborough on Thursday “safe and sound – and still smiling” to be greeted by the president of Mansfield Rotary Club, John Bilzon, and District Governor David Hood.

Cate and her cycling partner, Maldwyn Johnson, (pictured above with John Bilzon) were determined to finish their challenge to attend Rotary District Conference 2019 in Scarborough.

They were raising money for Mansfield Young Carers, Mansfield Music and Drama Festival, and Rotary Ambassadors for Deaf and Hearing Impaired.

Maldwyn is a regular cyclist who enjoys cycling in the Peak District, as well as undertaking an annual long distance ride in the UK and Europe.

However, Cate had not ridden a bike for more than 30 years. She said she had been determined to succeed, with the thought that all her efforts will go towards helping groups of local people.
