‘Ring Of Fire’ for lockdown radio boss

Posted onPosted on 9th Feb

The managing director and head of news at radio station Mansfield 103.2 has become a victim of the current cold snap.

Tony Delahunty, 76, who has been working from his makeshift garage studio for more than 300 days non-stop throughout the coronavirus pandemic, had been complaining to his wife about being cold whilst working this week.

However, unfortunately an act of kindness following his remarks backfired on him!

After a hard day at the news desk on Monday evening, Tony had taken a shower before retiring for the night. He then sat at the end of his bed totally naked and got the surprise of his life.

Something scolding hot made him leap forward with such force that he tripped over a chair and banged his head on a wardrobe, almost knocking himself out.

His wife, Carol, had put a hot water bottle there five minutes earlier and hadn’t told him.

When recounting the story on air to Mansfield 103.2’s breakfast show listeners, he said: “The sudden shock of the heat sent me hurtling across the room and people haven’t stopped laughing since they heard about what happened.” The breakfast show presenter went on play the Johnny Cash classic, Ring Of Fire.

Tony has also taken advice from local NHS leader David Ainsworth who suggested he should fill the bottle with ice and use it to soothe both his burnt bottom and bruised head.

To add insult to injury Tony’s wife had wanted to throw the hot water bottle away, which hadn’t been used for 15 years, but he had stopped her saying it could come in handy at some point.
