Remembrance events

A number of Remembrance events are taking place throughout Mansfield District on Remembrance Sunday.

At Mansfield Civic Centre, the parade will assemble at 9.50am at the Civic Centre War Memorial. At 10am there will be a brief ceremony, including wreath laying, followed by a Remembrance Service at St Peter’s and St Paul’s Church at 10.55am. Following the service, the parade will return to the Civic Centre in the Council Chamber for refreshments.

At Rainworth, the parade will gather at the Village Hall on Kirklington Road at 10.15am and move on to St Jude’s on Southwell Road for the Remembrance Service at 10.45am. Please note – only the RBL will be laying a wreath.

At Bellamy Road, assemble at 10.20am at the Community Centre on Bellamy Road. The wreath-laying will start at 10.30am followed by a service.

At Mansfield Woodhouse, the parade will assemble in Morrisons’ car park at 10.15am before moving off at 10.30am to the Cenotaph. At 11am wreaths will be laid and there will be an Act of Homage. A service will follow at St Edmund’s Parish Church. There will then be a further wreath-laying ceremony at Pleasley Vale Memorial.

At Warsop, the parade will assemble at Carr Lane Ex-Serviceman’s Club at 10am and move off at 10.15am. There will be an Act of Homage at 11am and a service at the War Memorial.

At Forest Town, assemble at the Welfare car park at 10.05am for march at 10.30am. March along ‘wide fronts’ and turn left up Kingsway to T-junction. Turn left onto Clipstone Road West, then up to George Street, straight over and turn left onto Attlee Avenue, then right onto Laurel Avenue. Continue left onto Victory Drive. Follow round and turn left onto Dorothy Drive. Left again onto Old Mill Lane and parade down to crossroads/traffic lights. Turn left and enter St Alban’s Church.

Following the service, walk along Clipstone Road West to Kingsway. Turn right, go down to the bottom and turn right. Parade along ‘wide fronts’ back to the Welfare Car Park.

Light refreshments will be served at the Welfare after the Parade.

At Nottingham Road Cemetery, there will be an Act of Homage at 10.45am at the Cemetery Chapel. This will then be followed by laying of wreaths at the nearby war memorial.

Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Holder for Resources, Cllr Roger Sutcliffe said: “These ceremonies will remember all the brave Service men and women, who have given their lives, so we can live in peace. This year’s events will also be commemorating one hundred years since the start of World War One.

“As well as attending the services and acts of remembrance, you can also show your support by purchasing a poppy and donating to this year’s Poppy Appeal.”
