Recipe book marks 100 years of Soroptimist International

Posted onPosted on 20th Oct

A Mansfield woman has prepared a recipe book to celebrate the centenary of a voluntary organisation that works to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and across the world.

Soroptimist International (SI) is a worldwide volunteer service organisation for women and Kam Britland (above) is SI Midland East president.

Her book contains 100 recipes to celebrate the 100 years of soroptimists raising funds to support women and girls around the world.

It was conceived during lockdown and Kam worked tirelessly to ensure the book came to publication, gathering recipes from members and friends in the region.

“This book celebrates the work of Soroptimists in the region, nationally and internationally in supporting the lives of women and girls less fortunate than ourselves,” she said. “Principally, funds raised will go to an initiative supported by our international president, called Opening Doors To A Bright Future, using education to transform the lives of women and girls through education and empowerment, and so enabling opportunities.

“It has been a challenge during the pandemic to put this together, but it is very exciting to see hard work come to fruition.”

Copies can be obtained from Kam, who is also a member of the Mansfield club of Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI) and works for Mansfield District Council.

Last year she raised more than £1,700 for SIGBI charities through a calendar featuring the 12 clubs in the region.
