Raising thousands for Alzheimer’s care at Mansfield Building Society

Posted onPosted on 9th Apr

Mansfield Building Society staff have chosen to support Alzheimer’s Society for a third successive year.

Alzheimer’s Society first became Mansfield’s chosen Charity Partner in 2023, when colleagues raised £6,000.

Last year a further £7,500 was given to the charity, with new fundraising activities including taking on the Mansfield 10k, and commercial development executive Richard Crisp completing his first skydive.

All funds raised are ring-fenced for Nottinghamshire, where more than 12,700 people are estimated to be living with dementia — a term used to describe symptoms that over time can affect memory, problem-solving, language, and behaviour.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia, but there are many others. Anyone affected can be supported by Alzheimer’s Society.

Alice Grewcock (pictured with building society staff), regional fundraiser for the charity, said: “Dementia devastates lives, but it’s not an inevitable part of ageing. The advances we are seeing in dementia research can, and will, lead to earlier more accurate diagnosis and treatments, but we must act now.

A donation of £500 could provide 50 people with their first support call with one of our expert dementia advisers.

“Alzheimer’s Society couldn’t do the work we do without amazing fundraisers, like Mansfield Building Society.”

Vickie Preston, head of HR at the building society, added: “2023 and 2024 saw colleagues work extremely hard to raise a superb £13,500 for Alzheimer’s Society. Fundraising events, ranging from serving breakfast cobs and Christmas dinners to taking part in a Ride to Everest, saw colleagues attracting sponsorship for their efforts.

“We look forward to championing Alzheimer’s Society again throughout 2025.”
