Raised £14,800 in memory of their son

A Ravenshead family have celebrated another successful year of fundraising in tribute to their son.

Susan Skillington, 66, and her husband, Tony, 69, from Ravenshead, help blood cancer charity Bloodwise in memory of James, who died in 2002.

They have raised £14,800 for research into the disease and support services.

Susan, along with family and friends, has tirelessly fundraised since 2002.

During the past year alone they held a hog roast, golf day and Christmas fayre.

Susan said: “It’s been brilliant to honour James’ memory by raising as much money as we can for Bloodwise.

“It’s important to us that we make a difference with our fundraising, but also that the events are fun-filled for those who attend and have help us fundraise.

“Our events are always highlights in our year. This year I will be hosting the hog roast and the Christmas fayre again. It’s great to bring people together for a cause that is so important and really close to our hearts.

“The hog roast was a really great event, a chance to come together, have some fun and overall raise some money for the vital research that is needed to cure blood cancer.”

The money raised will be invested in research into blood cancers such as leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and patient support services for those affected by the disease.

Alannah Evans, regional fundraising manager at Bloodwise, added: “Thanks to fundraisers like Susan, we can continue to fund research projects that will find more effective and less harsh treatments for blood cancer, a disease which kills more people each year than breast or prostate cancer.

“We are grateful to her for continually fundraising and to those who have donated funds, attended or taken part at events.”
