Pupils’ special service for Mothering Sunday

Posted onPosted on 2nd Apr

Pupils at Sutton’s St Mary Magdalene Church of England Primary School welcomed their families in to the church to hold a Mothering Sunday Service.

Harry Robertson, 10, who took part in the service, said: “It included artwork and poetry and also a little drama. The artwork had a silhouette of mums and children on it.”

Teacher Emily Cave said the children wanted to make the service heart-warming.

“We always hold our Mother’s Day service at St Mary Magdalene Church, here in Sutton. The children have produced some lovely art and have written their own poetry too.

“They will perform a Bible story for those attending and sing some of our favourite hymns. The children have worked really hard to make the service special.”

Attending the service was Joanne Hill, who has a child at the school. She said: “I like to come and see this particular service, the children put such a lot of effort in to it. It’s a really nice occasion to be a part of.

“All of the parents at this school are great supporters of events, there is always a big turnout.”

Head teacher Samantha Robinson said she enjoyed welcoming parents to share time with their children. “As a Church of England school, it is important for us to recognise Mothering Sunday. In the same way that the Christian faith celebrates the love God has for us, we feel it is important to celebrate the love shown to our children by those who care for and nurture them at home.”

Father Andy Nicolls, of St Mary Magdalene Parish Church, said: “It is always nice to see the church full of children and families. We have a very close link with the school.”
